Hello!
I am a life long resident of the Four Corners Area- Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. I was born in the small mountain town of Durango, Colorado and raised on the Navajo Reservation in both Utah and New Mexico, My love of the southwest shows up in many of my paintings, both landscape and still life.
Although I love the southwest, my adventuresome nature loves to travel and paint the world. While I am an oil painter, I travel with watercolors. They allow me the freedom to pack lightly and still have a palette at hand. Some of my favorite international paintings are of Copenhagen, Denmark and Venice, Italy.
I have studied with both American and international artists. In addition I have awards from many shows and my works are collected internationally.
Teaching workshops is something that has brought me joy over the past few years. I've taught several Southwest style painting workshops in the Dallas,Texas area. It thrills me to see the excitement in a student as they "get it."
Welcome to my site.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
My art inspirations come from my fascination with light and color. Dark juxtaposed with light, warm against cool, they all draw me curiously in to study them.
You will find an American Southwest inspiration in most of my art work. I love the way turquoise blue harmonizes with the adobe oranges of Indian potteries. Capturing light and shadow on the textures of a Navajo rug fascinates me. I also love seeing our clear blue New Mexico skies butted up against the orange, red and violet colors of the bluffs and mesas. While the Southwest is where most of my inspiration comes from, I also love seeing works from the Old World artists. Their contribution to art can not be understated and I find new ways to express myself when studying their works of art.
"Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment." Claude Monet
I enjoy studying the old masters and employ many of their techniques in my work. Glazing is my favorite technique; I feel it creates a luminosity and realism that is not matched in any other way.
